Trash Could Damage Sea Biota in Jakarta

Transporting trash from river and channel flow must be done frequently before they come down to sea in Jakarta. Because the trash could ruin sea ecosystem until Seribu Islands maritime.

"The trash could potentially ruin sea ecosystem and Seribu Islands maritime towards sea biota, even very vulnerable to disaster," said Head of Seribu Islands Environment Agency, Tiurmaida Hutapea, Tuesday (12/8).

He furthered, his side wants all side including central government to be more firm regarding sanction for trash offenders on riverbank and improve the infrastructures.

"13 river flows are not all from Jakarta. Besides strict sanction, a kind of safety net could be built so that trash would not flow directly to the sea if the flow is strong," he furthered.

He exemplified in Malaysia or crossing from Batam to Singapore, the sea is also free from trash.

"Remember that our food security that can be relied is only the maritime, as in land almost of them have been damaged by industry, forest encroacher and mining," he disclosed.
